What battery does my key fob take?

Most key fobs use a 3 V lithium coin cell such as a CR2032, CR2025, CR2016, CR1620 or CR2450, but it varies by vehicle and model year.[1 · Oct 29, 2026][2 · Oct 29, 2026] The size is printed on the old battery and listed in your owner's manual.[2 · Oct 29, 2026]

How to find your fob's battery

  1. Look at the old battery. Ford says the battery type is printed on the battery itself and in the owner's manual.[2 · Oct 29, 2026]
  2. Check the manual's key or remote section. Honda's 2024 CR-V manual, for example, lists a CR2032 for its keyless remote.[3 · Oct 29, 2026]
  3. Use the code. Type it into the battery finder to see the size, voltage and other names.

Keep spare coin cells safe

A swallowed coin cell can cause serious injury or death in as little as 2 hours.[4 · Oct 29, 2026] Keep spares in their packaging, out of children's reach. The EPA says used coin cells shouldn't go in the trash; tape or bag them for a battery recycler.[6 · Oct 29, 2026]
